FAQ

Do we get any digital photos?
All of my work is done with film and Polaroid cameras, so while you don't get digitally created images, you will get digital scans of your film photos. They will be sent via an online gallery, in JPG format, just like digital photos usually are. You get the authenticity of film photography with the same convenience of digital photography.
Do you edit the photos?
Part of the intrigue of film is the realness of it and the natural quality it has - beautiful colours, grain, etc. Different film stocks will give varying levels of these factors so I choose the type of film I'm using to match the look of photos I want to produce. The only editing I do afterwards is straightening/cropping and minor tweaks to brightness/contrast. I generally don't remove anything from the photos unless it is a major distraction in a way that takes away from the image or specifically requested by the client.
What if something happens to the film? Especially during a wedding.
I will preface this by saying that I have yet to have any rolls of film be lost or ruined. I handle my film with great care and use a reputable lab for developing. That being said, film always carries a bit of risk.
For sessions, if anything were to happen, I would offer a replacement session or a full refund.
For weddings, if I am the sole photographer (ie. you haven't hired a digital photographer as well), I will have a second photographer with me. They will be documenting the day on a digital camera, but those images will be for back-up purposes only. You will not receive digital images unless I was unable to delivered the proper amount of film images. I may also occasionally include a couple digital images in your gallery if I feel I didn't adequately capture a key moment (like the first kiss).
If you have a digital photographer hired and I am unable to provide the agreed upon number of film images, I would issue a refund depending on how much film was lost.
Note: These conditions only apply to a situation where the film is completely lost or damaged.
Do we get any physical photos?
Yes! All photos are delivered as both digital scans AND 4x6" prints!
Do you travel?
I gladly photograph sessions and weddings anywhere from Saint John to Sussex at no cost. I charge a travel fee for anything outside of this area, based on the distance. With five young children at home, I generally don't accept many bookings that require too much travel, but please don't hesitate to ask!
Do we get the RAW files?
RAW files are a very large professional file type that can only be opened with specific software - they are not simple image files. I provide all the successful images to you in JPG format and 4x6" prints so you don't have to worry about any good photos being missed :)
We have a digital photographer booked for our wedding but would love to have you photograph on film, too. Is this possible?
Yes! I love working with other photographers to document your day. Before you inquire with me, just reach out to your photographer to ensure they are okay with having me there, as well :)
Do you offer payment plans?
I do! I require 25% up front to secure your booking, but the rest is just due a month before your wedding. You can make payments whenever you'd like leading up to that due date, or just pay the remaining lump sum on the due date; whatever works for you!
When will we receive our photos?
Polaroids are handed over at the end of the session or wedding day. Film photos are delivered as digital scans within four weeks of your wedding and prints are mailed to you within eight weeks.
How would you describe your wedding photography style?
I definitely lean towards a documentary/observational approach to weddings. I prefer to be in the background, watching and photographing your day as it happens - the way it would unfold if I wasn't there. I aim to be a calm presence on your day. I will, however, direct family formal photos and provide direction during your formal couple photos (which can take as much or as little time as you want).
How do you handle family formal photos?
I ask that my couples provide me with a list of the family combinations they want to have photographed during family formals (including names) prior to the wedding day.
For example:
Bride + parents (Jack & Judy)
B&G + groom's brother (Joey)
B&G + bride's grandparents (Regina & Paul)
etc.
This helps speed things along when it comes to this part of the day, keeps things organized, and ensures we don't miss any important photo combos in the moment.
Can we hire you just for Polaroids to give to guests as favours?
Yes! I am happy to join your reception for an hour or two simply to take quality Polaroid photos of your guests. I do not offer any type of props, but you are welcome to provide some to your guests for added fun. I use a professional level Polaroid camera, with manual settings, that produces high quality, classic full-sized Polaroid photos that make a perfect memento for your guests! You can find info on this offering on my packages page!
